The African Insurance Organization (AIO) is a non-governmental organization recognized by many African governments, including Cameroon which has signed a headquarters agreement with it and where it has set up its permanent secretariat. AIO was established in 1972.

There are 4 categories of members:
The Insurance Industry, Regulatory/Supervisory authorities, Training Centers, National and Regional associations.

AIO has 287 members from 50 countries in Africa and associate international members from 5 countries (as at 2009).

The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) Promotes and upholds the universally accepted standards of business ethics and professional integrity among its members, using modern technology in maintaining and disseminating information globally.

The goal of the Association is to protect and advance the common interests of Insurers in Nigeria by creating and sustaining a positive image for the Insurance industry and contributing to legislation, and decisions made by the Government and other public Authorities in the best interest of the industry in particular and the national economy in general.

The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers was established by an Act of the National Assembly (NCRIB Act No. 21 of 2003) which was signed into law by the then President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed  Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR on 4th July, 2003 .  The Council succeeded the Nigerian Corporation of Insurance Brokers founded in 1962 and incorporated on 9th May, 1967 as a non-profit making organisation limited by guarantee under the Companies Act (1968).  The Council is the Umbrella Association of all Registered Insurance Brokers in Nigeria who are by law expected to be registered by it before they can be licensed to operate in the Nigerian Insurance market by the National Insurance Commission.

African Insurance Brokers Association (AIBA) is one of the earliest bodies established by the African Insurance Organization (AIO). Currently,we have our Head Quarters located in Lagos, Nigeria.
AIBA has a Secretariat, headed by the General Secretary. The Management (Executive) Committee headed by the AIBA Chairman and with Membership elected from the four Regional Groups of West Africa, North Africa (Francophone), Central and East Africa and South Africa, overseas the day to day affairs of the association.
